'Ugly' is a Black Crowned Night Heron. We raised him from a very young chick. He was soft-released at the Sanctuary and is still seen regularly living on Kailua Bay. He has his own territory and clearly responds to Ann's calls. He even comes back to the Sanctuary for an occasional visit if there is too much activity near his home turf (e.g., annually during Ironman or during recent construction on the Kailua Pier)
